NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION
January 20, 2009
CALL TO ORDER: Vice
President Barbara Taylor CIT called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with
eight members, nine guests and one speaker present.
A quorum was established. Location of the meeting was the City Diner Restaurant. Secretary, Vickie Thompson, was present.
INTRODUCTIONS:† Self Introductions were made.
PROGRAM: Attorney Robert Ramey presented on Texas Construction Lien Laws
MINUTES: The November Minutes were approved via the internet.
CORRESPONDENCE:† No correspondence required action.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS
VICE PRESIDENT: Barbara Taylor CIT reported that the February 17th meeting will be a floor installation presentation by Home Depot. They are a partner with NAWIC.
The March 17th meeting will be NAWIC 101 presented by Cathy Beaudin CCA, CIT
Llanas presented the November and December treasurerís report.
They were approved as printed.
Membership: Cathy Beaudin CCA, CIT reported for that she brought membership packets for the guests present.
Construction Professional and Education:
CAD: Barbara Taylor CIT reported that there are only 5 students from Bruni TX participating.
BLOCK KIDS: Barbara
Taylor CIT reported that we need to show up for Block Kids at
8:30 AM January 31, 2009 at Prescott Elementary. She said Jennifer Storm with AGC gave us a lot of stuff for our goodie bags.
Community in Schools: Barbara Taylor CIT reported that Christmas around the World netted $5000.00.The kids filled out a survey and said Spain (our booth with Gill Roofing) was the best.
She also reported that they will be having many fund raises throughout the year.
March 14, 2009 they will have a flea market. She said you can call her for items to be donated to CIS.
April 15, 2009 go to Chiliís and mark on the bottom of the bill with CIS and Chiliís will donate 10% to CIS for kids who canít afford cap & gowns for graduation.
Construction Project: Barbara Taylor CIT reported that the ARK called and wants a 3ft mason wall on three side of a concrete playground. Barbara got in touch with AGC and
we will partner with them to do it. More information to follow.
Bylaws: Vickie Thompson made a motion to adopt the revised Chapter Standing Rules as presented via the internet. Virginia Llanas seconded. Motion carried.
Publicity: Barbara Taylor CIT, discussed publicity items sent out. She said Fanny from the CC Caller Times will have an article on Block Kids out January 26, 2009.
Region 7 Fund: Virginia Llanas reported that the Chapter should pay the contribution to the Region 7 Fund per Director Julia Campbell. Virginia Llanas said she would reimburse any member that paid the $ 5.00. She said that nobody has paid her.
Vickie Thompson made the motion that the Chapter pays $65.00($5.00 per 13 members) to the Region 7 Fund. Virginia Llanas seconded. Motion Carried.
WIC Week: Barbara Taylor CIT said Sally from the Cattlemenís Baron will be getting our material for our cabin. We will be starting it soon and will present it to them during WIC Week for their fund raiser.††††
Unfinished Business: Barbara Taylor CIT said that the audit for 2007 Ė 2008 General Fund is in compliance except that some deposits were made late.
Barbara Taylor CIT reported that she helped the Salvation Army Dec 15, 2008 at their Angel tree at the Mall.
Barbara Taylor CIT reported that the Bold Future had 1863 completed surveys in their system and at the end of the presentation it showed that NAWIC endorsed it.
One more way to get our name out there.
NEW BUSINESS:† Barbara Taylor CIT reported that the ABC will have their 1st Annual Cook-off July 10 & 11, 2009 for more information contact Barbara.†††††††††††
Skills USA will be April 1 -4, 2009. Barbara Taylor CIT asked to get Judges.
Bria Whitmire reported that the AGC has a Scholarship for members and their immediate family who are undergrads. She said get with her for the information.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Barbara Taylor CIT congratulated Virginia Llanas for Valeroís award from the Texas Workforce.
