CORPUS CHRISTI CHAPTER # 4

MEMBERSHIP MEETING

November 20, 2007

 

 

CALL TO ORDER:  President, Barbara Taylor, CIT called the meeting to order at 5:50 p.m. Location of the meeting was the City Diner.  Secretary, Darlene Lee-Omana, was present.

 

INTRODUCTIONS:  Seven members present

 

PROGRAM:   Chere Large with Gulf Coast Nut & Bolt Supply gave program on all aspects of motivation. 

 

MINUTES:    The Minutes for October, 07 were approved as written.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:  Correspondence was read and none required action.

 

REPORTS OF OFFICERS

 

PRESIDENT:  President, Barbara Taylor CIT reported that:

  1. Our October 07 report will be printed in this month’s regional newsletter.
  2. Anyone interested in running for Regional Director should contact Barbara.  The members felt that Barbara would make a good candidate.
  3. Virginia Llanes was appointed as our Health & Safety Committee Chairman.
  4. IRS Compliance Certificate was given to Darlene to forward to Vickie.
  5. IRS regulations on how long we need to keep our records.  Any questions on the lengths, call Barbara.
  6. Proposed Chapter Standing Rules and Amendments were discussed.
  7. NAWIC Building Pathways to Success was discussed.
  8. APC report.  Forum is going to be the same weekend as Skills USA and presents a conflict for our chapter.  Barbara was going to check with Regional and see if an alternate date could be made.  Celina had an idea for making and selling interchangeable watches.  Celina and Kim are going to check on it.

 

VICE PRESIDENT:  Vice President, Virginia Llanas reported that there will not be a regular business meeting in December.  We will have a Christmas party on December 14, 2007 at the home of Celina Romay- 4302 Acushnet.  Bring a $10.00 construction related gift for you and your guest if you bring one.  The next business meeting will be held January 15, 2008 at City Diner.

 

 

TREASURER:  Treasurer, Vickie Thompson was absent.  Treasurer’s business was tabled until January, 2008.  Barbara Taylor submitted bills for Block Kids to be forwarded to Vickie.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS: 

 

Audit:  President Barbara Taylor reported that books for audited and found to be in order.  Darlene turned over the books to Kim Wilburn so she could get started on the tax return.

Professional Education:  Virginia Llanas had nothing to report at this time.

Membership:  Membership Chair, Lisa Huerta reported on two new members: Chere Large with Gulf Coast Nut & Bolt Supply and Kim Keplar with Bluebonnett Remodeling.  It was decided that the large membership packets would be given out at meetings instead of mailing them.  Because of illness in her family, she has not been able to contact some potential members and new member Chere Large offered to be on her committee and help her. 

Block Kids: President, Barbara Taylor reported that she had found some blocks, but still needed more.  She found a sale at Toys R-Us and got two of the prizes we give on sale.  She also reported that Brenda Garcia from Prescott Elementary will host our Block Kids competition again on January 19, 2008.  Judges were lined up.  Chick Fil-a has offered to furnish breakfast.  All members should try to get there early to help set up.  Sam Beecroft with Beecroft Construction made a donation of $100.00 for Block Kids.

Badges & Identification:  Lisa Huerta offered to take chair.

Publicity:  President, Barbara Taylor, CIT discussed publicity items sent in.

Education:  No report

Recycle:  Lisa Huerta:  More recyclables were also collected.

CAD:  President, Barbara Taylor, CIT reported that the deadline for CAD applications is December 9, 2007.  She got some ideas for judges.

Social:  Christmas Party- December 14, 2007:  7:00 pm.  4302 Acushnet.  Celina will assign food.

Roster: Darlene offered to let Kim Wilburn know about the two new members.  The new year roster will be available as soon as Kim gets the list of renewals.

Ways and Means:  Committee Chairman, Darlene Lee Omana asked for any ideas for the next fundraising project.  New member Kim Keplar will follow up on possible interest from motorcycle clubs for a “Charity Run” and will report at the January meeting.  Send Darlene any information on a golf tournament.  Darlene suggested a large rummage sale in the spring.  Get contractors and suppliers to donate old merchandise that is not moving or is outdated.  Start working on your suppliers now.  Celina is going to check on her parents business location.

Communication:  No Report

Friendship:  No Report.

Website: Celina Romay suggested chapter sales be sold on website.

Trash Off: Lisa Huerta reported the next clean up will be on January 12, 2008: 9:00 am.

WIC Week:   Three items were brought to the table for Wic Week and Construction Project.  Membership decided to go for all three.  Start with the Prescott School and proceed next with one of The Arks.  Depends on when The Kids Ark gets in the playground equipment.  Barbara will get a material list to members to start looking for donations.

  1. Prescott School Nurse’s Station needs paint, a bench with drawers and work station for computer.
  2. The Ark Assessment Center and Emergency Shelter for Youth needs new playground equipment installed.
  3. The Ark Drug Recovery has several items that could be done at their center.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:  President, Barbara Taylor, CIT, Virginia Llanes and Kim Keplar showed the presentation for the Education Service Center they had for presentation on November 30, 2007 at 10:00 and 1:00.  She asked that all members bring their list of volunteer judges for the Skills USA competition to the January meeting.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  President, Barbara Taylor, CIT reported:

  1. ABC Craft Training Center, a NAWIC Partner will have an open house on December 13, 2007 from 10:00 -2:00 at the Multi Purpose Training Facility at 7433 Leopard.
  2. The 2007-2008 budget was presented and approved as corrected.
  3. Luncheon November 21, 2007 at Salvation Army.
  4. Barbara was a guest on Jim Lago Radio Show and was contacted by the West Oso School to speak to the Senior and Junior classes.  She will be making another presentation on December 7, 2007.
  5. President Barbara Taylor, CIT was appointed to the Building and Contracting Advisory Committee by Juan Garcia.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Celina Romay thought that we should contact Del Mar West for possible new members from the Trades.

 

Darlene Lee Omana announced that one of our volunteers, William Palmos had died.  A Memorial Service will be held, Sunday, November 25, 2007 at 1:30.  MCC Church on South Staples.

 

ADJOURNMENT:  There being no further business to come before the assembly, the meeting was adjourned at 9.15 p.m.
