NOVEMBER 17, 2009



CALL TO ORDER:  President Darlene Omana CCA, CIT called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with five members, one speaker and one guest present.  A quorum was established. Location of the meeting was the City Diner Restaurant.  Secretary, Lisa M Huerta was present.


PROGRAM:  Pat Taylor of the Small Business Development Center gave a presentation of what the Small Business Development Center could do for small businesses.


MINUTES:  The October Minutes were approved as presented.


Correspondence:  No correspondence that required action was received.




PRESIDENT:  President Darlene Omana CCA, CIT discussed with members the policies of NAWIC that need to be adopted. BOARD RECOMMENDATION: The board recommended the Chapter adopted the following policies for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, effective immediately, with annual review and renewal:


1.             Code of Ethics

2.             Conflict of Interest

3.             Record Retention and Document Destruction

4.             Whistleblower Protection

5.             Expense Reimbursement

6.             Joint Venture



VICE PRESIDENT:  Vice President Barbara Taylor CIT reported their will be no meeting on December 08, 2009.  We will volunteer our time instead to bell-ringing and the angel tree for the Salvation Army at the JC Penney Store.


TREASURER:   Virginia Llanas presented the October 2009 Treasurer Report.  It was approved as corrected.  Virginia also presented the 2009-2010 Budget.  It was approved as amended.




Membership:  Cathy Beaudin and Victoria Thompson had a meeting on November 1, 2009 and went over the new membership packets and updated the materials within.


Publicity:  Barbara Taylor, CIT sent a press release for the meeting date on November 2, 2009.  She also sent a press release for the Installation of Officers on November 4, 2009.


Cartridges:  Secretary Lisa Huerta discussed Office Depot Plan for credit for recycled cartridges.  She will check to see if we would be eligible for that program and report back in January 2010.


Block Kids: Barbara Taylor, CIT reported that the contest will be held January 30, 2010.  She also reported that we need breakfasts and judges and goodie bags..  Lisa Huerta, Secretary will contact What a Burger for breakfast donation.


Book Drive:  Barbary Taylor, CIT reported that we have 5 boxes of books to donate.


CAD:  Barbara Taylor, CIT reported that she sent emails to schools to remind them to send in their CAD applications.


The ARK:  Barbara Taylor, CIT reported that the groundbreaking ceremony was held.


Construction Professional Education:  Barbara Taylor CIT reported that there will be no January 2010 speaker as we will be preparing for the Block Kids Contest.  President Darlene Omana collected donations for the NEF Raffle Tickets.


Baker Middle School:  Barbara Taylor, CIT reported that she was invited to judge an assignment on November 19, 2009 for a project called “ My Town”.


Unfinished Business:  Vice President Barbara Taylor CIT and Treasurer Virginia Llanas attended Career Day at Prescott Elementary and promoted the Construction Industry and Block Kids.
