NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION
October 21, 2008
CALL TO ORDER: President Darlene Omana CCA, CIT called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. with six members present and one guest speaker. A quorum was established. Location of the meeting was the City Diner. Secretary, Vickie Thompson, was present.
INTRODUCTIONS:† Self Introductions were made.
PROGRAM: Claudia Jackson from the Bold Future
MINUTES: The September Minutes were approved as corrected via the internet.
CORRESPONDENCE:† No correspondence required action.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS
PRESIDENT:† President Darlene Omana CCA, CIT reported that she will start do more of the meeting business via email. This will make our meetings have more time for longer programs and more networking.
She asked all the committee chairs to get their reports to Vickie Thompson ASAP so she can put it in the NAWIC Chapter Newsletter.
She went over the Pre-Con and Post-Con Summery from Director Julia Campbell. There were no questions to be reported back to Julia.
VICE PRESIDENT:† Vice President Barbara Taylor CIT reported that the next meeting will be held November 18, 2008 at the BBQ Man. She reported that the program would be the TRCC and we need at least 25 people there.
She invited the Chapter to have the NAWIC Christmas party at her house. More details to follow.
The January 20th meeting will be the Texas Construction Association Inc on Lien Laws.
The February 17th meeting will be a presentation by Home Depot. They are a partner with NAWIC.
TREASURER:† Treasurer, Virginia Llanas, Septemberís treasurers report was approved as corrected via the internet.
Budget: President Darlene Omana CCA, CIT will set up a time and place for the Budget committee to meet.
Membership: Cathy Beaudin CCA, CIT reported for that she will give every guest at the November meeting a membership packet. She would also like to give NAWIC 101 presentations at other Construction Associations.
Construction Professional and Education:
CAD: Barbara Taylor CIT reported that there were two addendums to the project. She sent them to the teachers.
BLOCK KIDS: Barbara Taylor CIT reported that Block Kids will be held January 31, 2009 at Prescott Elementary with about 36 kids. She asked if there were suggestions for the Breakfast Sponsor. President Darlene Omana CCA, CIT said she would call Burger King and Lisa Huerta said
would call Whataburger for about 50 meals.
Barbara Taylor CIT reported that her mother found some hard hats and donated them to us.
Community in Schools: Barbara Taylor CIT reported that they would like volunteers for their Halloween Haunted house. She also said they need four dozen cookies but to check with Kim Kepler on that.
Publicity: Barbara Taylor CIT, discussed publicity items sent out. She met with Fanny from the CC Caller Times about a CAD and Block Kids story for the newspaper.
Ways and Means: †Virginia Llanas reported that we made $ 179.05 on the AGC/NAWIC Garage sale.
Recycling: President Darlene Omana CCA, CIT reported that Criselda Gonzales is the new contact at Bay Inc. She also reported we made $8.25.
Unfinished Business: Barbara Taylor CIT and Virginia Llanas will meet to do the audit on last yearís General Fund.
Barbara Taylor CIT reported she got some donations for the Diabetes Association.
Barbara Taylor CIT reported she did a presentation September 18, 2008 at Rockport Fulton High School to over 100 students about construction.
Barbara Taylor CIT reported that on October 3, 2008 she volunteered for the Salvation Army and collected a lot of cloths at their Stein Mart collection campaign.
Barbara Taylor CIT reported she attended the Bold Future meeting September 17, 2008.
The CIS roofing project will be tabled till next month when Kim Keplar can report.
NEW BUSINESS:† Barbara Taylor CIT asked the Chapter if we wanted to endorse the Bold Future Movement. The Chapter voted to do it.††††††††††††
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Barbara Taylor CIT thanked the Chapter for the flowers for being the Past President.
Congratulations to Monica Sanderson on being Vice President of BACC
