from around the region
…from your Director
It is surprising to me that the first year
serving as your director is behind us. I
look forward to the coming year with much anticipation because of you – all of
you have brought dedication, commitment, and excitement to your chapters, the
region, and NAWIC across the country. It
is my honor to represent Region 7 for one more year.
Hurricane Ike was a monster storm that
devastated southeast Texas from Galveston to Louisiana. The full effects are still not known and will
not be for quite some time. The infrastructure
of Houston was damaged and some residents are still without basic services,
although they are on the road to recovery.
Port Arthur suffered great losses with some of our members losing
everything, including their jobs.
Lorinda Kirk and Betty Keith are compiling a list of needs in response
to the overwhelming show of support from NAWIC members across the country. We
will share that information as soon as available.
We all want to help so here is an idea,
thanks to Kasey and the Tulsa chapter.
When you come to APC next month, we will have a box at the registration
table to collect gift cards to give to the Port Arthur members for
distribution. Any amount will be very much appreciated. Basic necessities are
needed so next time you are shopping at Wal-Mart, CVS Pharmacy, Walgreen’s, Kroger,
etc. just add one or two to your cart at the check-out.
Convention was fantastic this year. The
speakers were exceptional, the workshops, seminars, and programs were filled
with timely information for us all. Our
region had 52 registered members with 49 in attendance. It is my hope that
everyone who attended will share your experience and knowledge gained with
those who were unable to attend.
Annual Planning Conference is right around
the corner and I would like to thank the Fort Worth chapter and the APC
Committee for their commitment to provide us with a wonderful conference. These regional conferences are for your
benefit and we always strive to bring you the information you need to get the
most benefit from your membership. We will have a lot of information to share
which will enable your chapters to be ever more successful and efficient. I
look forward to seeing you there.
Safe travels,
Julia Campbell

Caring…
I would like to remind everyone to remember
our friends and loved ones who are going through difficult times, no matter
what the cause. We all know someone
having health issues, financial problems, or the loss of a loved one and if we
take a moment to let them know we care, it makes their world a little brighter.
Let us never forget our brave men and women
in the Armed Forces who put their lives on the line every day in order to
preserve our safety and freedom. And to
all our veterans, a heartfelt THANK YOU!
…until next time,
Best wishes and safe travels,
Julia
